Srinagar, Nov 07 (KNO): A group of activists from Maharashtra on Friday organised a rally and Nukkad Natak (street play) at Srinagar’s famous Lal Chowk to spread the message against drug abuse. The campaign, organised in collaboration with a local trust, aimed to highlight the growing menace of narco-terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and its impact on youth. Holding placards and chanting slogans, the participants called for the slapping of the Public Safety Act (PSA) against those involved in drug trafficking networks. Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), one of the organisers, said, “Drug trafficking is not just a social issue, but it is linked to national security. We came here to stand with the people of Kashmir and raise a collective voice against this growing threat. Local volunteers and social workers also joined the rally, terming the move a “message of unity and shared responsibility” between states to combat the drug crisis. The Nukkad Natak portrayed the serious effects of addiction on families and society, drawing applause from onlookers at Clock Tower (Ghanta Ghar). A local present on the occasion told KNO, such plays help spread awareness among the youth and should be conducted regularly in schools and colleges across the Valley. “This collaboration proves that the fight against drugs goes beyond regional boundaries. We are thankful to our friends from Maharashtra for standing in solidarity with us,” the participant said—(KNO)
